I'll turn the key, just once more. Push some gas, but not a rumble. Here she is, my old rusty car. Finally lived out her days. That familiar creak in the door, Always expected and loved. Just my height, I step out. My head just missing the roof. A deep breath of fresh night air. The blackness in each direction. Barren and emotionless, where to go. That gravel sound, so new again. I face my car and feel heavy. Such a long ride, so many memories. It is rusted beyond repair, And lived out its days. I shut the door with a sad heart. And know it will never re-open. the highway is desolate, Not a friendly car in sight. could call family, could call friends. But the wind is so tense, And the road so unforgiving. It's a challenge I can't refuse. And in this moment of pain, I button my coat and tuck in my shirt. I lean in close and walk against the wind. I clench my eyes and see nothing still. and although I do not face it. I know my car is all alone, Slowly fading from my reality. Alone in the darkness. And i want to cry. |
